Portraits of Iris Berry by Mark Savage

Iris Berry is one of the true and original progenitors of the L.A. punk scene. A native Angeleno, Los Angeles Historian, actress, musician, poet, Mexican Wrestling Ring Girl and devoted Dodger fan. She writes her experiences with wit, grace, and deadly precision like a haunting tour of Los Angeles Noir that lingers after one of the city’s famous unsolved murders. Gritty and scarred, yet with a nonchalance that's fragile, intelligent and tough all at once.

We first met when I was assigned to photograph her in 1994 after her  book,

Two Blocks East of Vine had been published. Since then, I have photographed her more than a few times. Portraits of her are always unpredictable and especially fantastic.

LPGA Golfer Erica Blasberg Dead at 25

Erica Blasberg by Mark Savage Corbis
I was shocked and saddened to read that LPGA golfer Erica Blasberg has died. I happened to photograph her in 2005 for an Orange County golf magazine. I remember her from the photo assignment as a lovely young woman- very friendly and engaging. I also remember we had a good laugh because she had to help me with poses as she was more experienced with being photographed than I was photographing golfers.

Her death is under investigation. Here's a link to a NYT article.
