A Photo of My Lighting Equipment on a Portrait Headshot Assignment

As I was about to take an environmental portrait and an executive headshot down in Orange County today, I thought I would take a quick photo with my iPhone of my lighting equipment. I had set up my Photoflex softbox and a couple of umbrellas in my client's lobby. I've been photographing these type of assignments in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Orange County for many years, but I almost never photograph the space I'm shooting in.
I do like the furniture...very cool. I love the red.

A Very Cool Swimming Picture

I really like this photo of a swimmer swimming butterfly. I shot it at a recent meet in Long Beach. I caught her just as she was just coming up from her dive. It was an indoor meet- 300/2.8, 1/1000, at iso 2500.

This Model Has Very Long Legs

While looking over recent assignments from the past week or two, I remembered this shot of a model I photographed. This striking image(very blog-worthy) is from a portfolio shoot I had here in Los Angeles.

President George W. Bush Impersonator Steve Bridges Dies At 48

Steve Bridges, the great impersonator of President George W. Bush, has died at 48 in Los Angeles of apparent natural causes according to the L.A. Times.
Photographer Mark Savage with impersonator Steve Bridges at the 2006 Writers Guild Awards at the Hollywood Palladium.

I remember watching his act at the Writers Guild Awards. I thought he was brilliantly funny and charismatic. Here's a link to the routine he did at the White House Correspondents Association dinner with the former President back in 2006.

Photographing Basketball: CIF Southern Section Division V-AA Boys & Girls Hoops

Photos from yesterday’s CIF Southern Section Division V-AA Boys & Girls hoops in Santa Ana at Mater Dei HS for the Daily Breeze/Long Beach Press Telegram. For the boys, St. Bernard took on the Ribet Fightin’ Frogs (I like the bright green uniforms, by the way). St Bernard won this game. For the girls, Avalon went up against Rolling Hills Prep. Avalon put up a good fight, but lost.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I really like shooting down from the bleachers. I may be missing out on some good under the basket actions pics, but I think it gives me a better opportunity for a variety of shots. There’s no way I would have gotten the one player leaping over the other from center court, or the winning celebration pics.  By the way, that’s Ribet player #11 Brandon Robinson leaping over St. Bernard player #1 Lance Booker in the 3rd quarter.

My portrait of the poet Douglas Kearney. I believe this was taken around 2008 at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood where Kearney was performing one evening. The Geffen Playhouse allowed me set up my portable studio to take portraits of a few of the poets that evening. This portrait is one of many that I have taken of Los Angeles poets since I began documenting the scene back in the mid-90's.
