Iris Berry is one of the true and original progenitors of the L.A. punk scene. A native Angeleno, Los Angeles Historian, actress, musician, poet, Mexican Wrestling Ring Girl and devoted Dodger fan. She writes her experiences with wit, grace, and deadly precision like a haunting tour of Los Angeles Noir that lingers after one of the city’s famous unsolved murders. We first met when I was assigned to photograph her in 1994 after her book,
Two Blocks East of Vine had been published. Since then, I have photographed her more than a few times. Portraits of her are always unpredictable and especially fantastic.
